“Sunny Days” Folk Category Winner – ISSA Song Contest

November 30th, 2009

Thank you for making “Sunny Days” a winner! It truly would not have happened without your votes and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the support.

Even though the song won’t be released until March when my new record comes out, I’m giving it to you now for free as a little thank you gift. “Sunny Days” is now yours! Just hop over to the free download tab or click here to get the mp3.

November has been a ride. The final leg of the cross-Canada “Guess Who’s Driving Tour” wrapped up with a wonderful show at Halifax’s The Carleton last night. Kim Wempe and I were joined on stage by a full band – Kev Corbett, David Bradshaw, Rosie MacKenzie, Mark Murphy and some guest vocals by fellow singer/songwriters Norma MacDonald and Don Brownrigg. Big thanks to Mike Campbell and everyone at the Carleton as well as the amazing audience. It was such a great night!

Thanks for everything! Lots more news and music coming up soon…

In The City Lights…

November 23rd, 2009

The streets of Toronto speak to me in many languages…and I take it all in eagerly, storing every image away for the long winter ahead. I’ll revisit these sounds and sights during the winter, while I’m home in Halifax, and they’ll end up like precious stones set into songs written in the quiet, snow-laden comfort of my own city. But for now, I take it all in…

The city has been generally kind to us. Our first show here, at the Press Club was packed! It was a pleasure to meet some of the people who’ve been really supportive of this tour – our Publicist (Speak Music), our graphic designer (Kurt Firla) and many more. Besides a slight run in with urban reality (our tour car was broken into today… but we were lucky and all our instruments are in tact and still in our possession!), we’ve seen a lot of beautiful things in Toronto. We play our second TO show at The Cameron House Monday night at 9pm sharp.

ALSO – Don’t forget to vote AGAIN for my song “Sunny Days” nominated in Folk Category for an Independent Singer Songwriter Award. VOTING CLOSES NOV 25th! Every vote counts and you get to vote as many times as you can! Thank you so much for your support so far. To vote visit: http://www.carmelmikol.com/vote

VOTE FOR ME! VOTE FOR ME! ummm…. please:)

November 18th, 2009

We had a lovely show last night at The Spill Cafe. There was something in that room that helped me let go of all my worries and just sing from the purest place in me and that’s the kind of performance I live for. This venue is so cool! Kim and I decided we want to hitch the whole place to the back of our car and take it with us on tour – park in each city and play music from The Spill! (yikes that would really be dangerous driving.)

BIG NEWS for me today – my song “Sunny Days” is nominated for an Independent Singer/Songwriter Award in the Folk Category. But the winners are decided by FAN VOTES so I need your help!

Go to http://www.carmelmikol.com/vote and vote as many times as you wish! Voting starts today. Thank you so much for your support… I truly could not make music without you…

Quebec Onward…

November 16th, 2009

Hey Everyone!

I’m on the road and having some amazing experiences! Check out our latest video blog from Quebec below.

In Montreal I saw a friend I hadn’t seen in 14 years AND my sister flew up from Milwaukee to surprise me. It was pure happiness. We played at the legendary folk club The Yellow Door in Montreal (the oldest coffee house in Canada!!). It was a cozy and appreciative crowd. I felt the warmth of so many past folkies in the walls of that place….

Then we played a set at Quebec’s famous Black Sheep Inn – one of the best venues in Canada – where we opened up for Ottawa’s Jill Zmud. Now we are onto Ottawa to play the Rainbow and then six other shows in Ontario. So keep up with us cause we’re moving fast!!

A Weekend in Montreal…

November 13th, 2009

I woke up at 5 am this morning to a dark, frosty morning – aching for more sleep, but very happy to have had such a lovely show last night at Vintage Bistro in Hampton, NB. The crowd was so very appreciative of our music and very generous. Also a big shout out to Jeff Liberty for booking us and helping us out with the show.

We’re on our way to Montreal today… taking the long drive through NB. It’s a bright sunny day now and I’m can’t believe we’ll be in Montreal in a few hours. We play at the legendary folk club The Yellow Door @ 8:30pm. Then we get to hang out in the city for the weekend. I’m excited to get to catch up with some old friends I haven’t seen in years and to visit my grandmother who lives in Montreal. I’ll keep you posted!

See you at a show…
