June peaks out from under the soil, so brave and unabashed. The early fruits of summer dance into the markets, fill up our bowls with fresh green and purple and the sweetness of new life. We walk home through the still slanted sun, our arms heaped with the goodness of spring and our lungs aching as ever for the life that most certainly lies ahead: beaches strung with seaweed and salted firewood, sun cut out clean from sapphire skies, hot wind and all its pleasures, true summer. But first, June.
