Cape Breton: Annual Spring Concerts & Special Guest!

There’s still snow in the woods. But the hills are taking on the brick-red hue of birch buds, the streams are hurtling down the from the hills swelled with melt water, and the roads are washboard bumpy… so it must be Spring in Cape Breton.

Every May I come home for a few shows and bring a special guest for you to enjoy. This year, it’s my dear friend and collaborator, Kim Wempe. We’ve done plenty of touring, writing, and performing together over the years.

This year we’re offering an upbeat roots/blues/folk show with brand new songs from Kim’s forthcoming album (many of them co-writes) and some brand new material from my own catalogue. We’re playing in Sydney, North River, and Nyanza. We hope you can make it to one of these little shows. They will be very special. Expect lots of collaboration, hand-clapping, and foot-stomping!

Spring Things: MSNG 2013 & Opening for Amelia Curran

The ground swells, the trees loosen, the stones push their stubborn foreheads up through the yellow grass. The birds eat salt-stained debris from the streets. The snow crawls back to where it came from. Spring.

One of my favourite projects happens each Spring: Music Shapes New Glasgow Concert Series. It’s when I get to go behind the curtain and help organize a great concert series of musicians I love. And this year, I get to play too!

ECMA Showcases & Adventures

East Coast Music Week 2013 hits Halifax March 6th-10th. All the madness of hundreds of musicians and delegates will descend on the city. I’m ready as I’ll ever be. Are you?

I’ve got a full schedule of showcasing and business to keep me out of trouble all week. But I highly recommend you get in as much trouble as possible: see as many shows as you can, meet as many new friends as you can, dance a few jigs, and have a Scotch or two for me while you’re at it.

The winter and the quiet verse

It’s no secret there is life under the snow. Sleeping life. My songs are like that. They quiet, they lay down, they let go the wild bustle of touring season and rest a while. And I welcome it.

I’m off the road for most of the winter working on new demos, preparing for an Official Showcase at the 2013 East Coast Music Awards in March, and of course, my winter writing project.
