Hiya Folks!

BIG concert announcement here: I’ve lassoed the incredible bluegrass/folk band The Modern Grass to join me this year for my special Spring Concert Events. Vote for “Never Promised You Nothing” for ECMA Award

The East Coast Music Association celebrates the hard work of maritime artists every year. I love to see my friends doing well and it’s fun to have a small part in helping them do great work.

This year two good friends are up for ECMA awards for projects that I contributed to. Rachel Davis, of late a world traveler with the band Coig,  put out a gorgeous solo album this year called Turns. She was kind enough to record my song “Over the Mountain” and sang her heart out on it. That album is up for Rising Star Recording of the Year and Traditional Instrumental Recording of the Year.

I co-write three songs for Kim Wempe’s 2013 release Coalition and she recorded two of my songs as well. She’s up for Pop Recording of the Year and Fan’s Choice Video of the Year. The video that’s up for the award is a song I wrote a few years back called “Never Promised You Nothing.” You can  watch the video then VOTE once a day for that video here:

Thanks for your support folks!

See you at a show real soon:

A break in the weather: upcoming performances in Nova Scotia

I woke to the sun this morning. An open window. The sound of birds. Gold light cutting across boney trees, grey and white now almost invisible to me, so prevalent in January and February. But this little gold light wakes me up and I feel hopeful.

I have three lovely shows coming up to celebrate these shy signs of spring. I do hope to see you there and give you something to smile about, to feel, to ponder.

May I also share this beautiful poem from artist Carlo Spinazzola, who I never had the chance to meet, but who left many beautiful things behind. It seems just right for this time of year…

p.s. Work continues on my new album. It’s turning out to be a very special creation – almost more a short story collection than a music album, but still rich with sound. Can’t wait to share it with you…

In the Studio

It’s every bit as secretive as it looks. It’s a dark room with a lamp, an odd collection on vintage gear, a bit of clutter, and a Baldwin piano. It’s the studio I’m working to craft my new album. For now, I’ll keep it a secret. But check back soon for lots of news on the project. Can’t wait to share it with you…

Folk Music Ontario Showcases

In the middle of a cross Canada tour that can only be described as whiplash inducing (our trio has experienced 14 hour drives, seasonal allergies, new band growing pains, traffic jams, and …. three family deaths in the past three weeks), we stop for a weekend in Mississauga, Ontario where the annual Folk Music Ontario (formerly OCFF) Conference takes place. I’ll be playing showcases with Kim Wempe and some of my own solo shows.

These shows require a delegate pass and aren’t open to the public. But if you’re a buyer, agent, artist, or friend, here’s where to find me this weekend:
